Rao G. Desu’s professional journey began in 1991 when he worked as a clinical research associate and pharmacy intern at Bronx Lebanon Hospital. He later transitioned to roles at K-Mart and Eckerd Drugs, where he gained extensive experience in pharmacy management, long-term care consultancy, and business development. His strategic insights and leadership were evident early on, as he significantly increased sales, streamlined operations, and implemented clinical consultation programs.
In 1998, Rao G. Desu took a bold step in his career by establishing Neighbor Care Pharmacy Inc., an independent pharmacy business that quickly grew into a $80 million enterprise by 2017. Under his leadership, the company expanded its reach across multiple states, ensuring high-quality pharmaceutical services while navigating complex regulatory landscapes. He was instrumental in developing cost-saving programs, patient care initiatives, and compliance strategies, which led to increased revenue and customer satisfaction. After nearly two decades, he divested from independent pharmacies in 2018 to explore new opportunities in the pharmaceutical sector.
Recognizing the opportunity in clinical trial support and drug distribution, Rao G. Desu, co-founded with Dr. Larry Yu drug depot and Referral Drugs (RLD), a pharmaceutical distribution business that grew into a $15 million enterprise within three years. His expertise in importing/exporting pharmaceuticals, managing drug depot services, and sourcing comparator drugs for clinical trials positioned him as a key player in the pharmaceutical supply chain.
Beyond business, Rao G. Desu remains a thought leader in the pharmacy industry, actively engaging with professional organizations such as the National Community Pharmacy Association (NCPA), the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP), and the Garden State Pharmacy Owners Association (GSPO).
